Jay Bergstein

Chief Operating Officer

With a career spanning more than 47 years in the insurance industry, Jay is a respected voice on an expansive range of issues, including risk assessment, operational excellence and organizational strategy.

He has extensive experience serving both small and large insurance agencies bringing forth an expertise for identifying and building strong alliances with carriers and agencies around the country. Jay is no stranger to building an organization from the ground up.

Jay’s insurance career began in 1978 with the St Paul Insurance Company. Later that year, he joined his family’s fourth generation insurance business as a producer. By 1982, he was invited to become a partner and ultimately was appointed President & CEO in 1992. For the next few years, Jay helped develop a number of specialty agencies, and in 1995 created a new parent company, Insurance Resource Group.

Insurance Resource Group merged operations with Capacity Coverage Company in 2000, where he served as President of Retail Insurance Operations for the newly formed company for 18 years. He also was an integral part of the team that subsequently engineered the sale of the Company to EPIC Brokers in 2017. Jay continued on with EPIC as Managing Principal to assist with the transition.

Currently, Jay directs his focus on overseeing the daily operations of Capacity Marine where he serves as COO & Chief Marketing and Business Development Officer. He oversees broker partnerships, carrier relations, client services and marketing strategy.

Jay has served on several insurance councils including Atlantic Mutual, Hanover, Hartford, CNA and St Paul.  He has been a contributor to the industry in authoring many articles for trade publications and has been featured in various company training and promotional videos.

Bob Lull’s 40-year experience in the insurance industry is truly a unique one.  His early business experience was embedded in the management consulting industry.  Working for a large efficiencies company, he learned at an early age how to organize and operate companies.  His problem-solving skills were enhanced when he began in the insurance industry in 1986 as Vice President, Finance & Administration with I.R. Weinraub Company.  Two years later he joined one of New Jersey’s largest insurance brokerage firms, NIA, LTD. as Vice President of Operations.  Eight managers and over 100 employees reported directly to him, which included Accounting, Customer Service and Branch Office Operations.  Also working directly for the President in developing mergers and acquisitions strategies, he attained a deep understanding of how to create harmonious transactions.

 

In 1990 Bob founded Capacity Coverage Company of New Jersey, Inc. with two employees and his partner, Mark Weinraub.  In addition to management duties, he focused on new business production specializing in transportation risks.  In 1999 Bob founded Protrans, Inc., which functions as a program administrator for public transportation classes that include school bus, motor coach, limousine and medical transportation, and underwrites and issues policies for these classes of business nationally.  This business transformed into All Trans Risk Solutions, LLC.    

As President & CEO, his companies developed into The Capacity Group and grew through acquisitions, mergers and start-ups, which included Atlantic Coast Surety, Capacity Marine Corporation, Capacity Benefits and Financial Services and many others.  His philosophy of encouraging his business partners to operate their company and continue their brand empowered The Capacity Group to become the 38th largest full-service independent insurance brokerage group in the nation. The Company became quite a presence in the insurance community operating in 20 states and employing over 400 professionals.  In 2017, the retail companies under The Capacity Group umbrella were acquired by EPIC Insurance Brokers and Consultants.   

Bob’s flexibility and integrity have earned him the respect of his partners, associates, employees, clients and competition, who understand his business approach is both professional and personal.  He has served on many insurance company councils, including St. Paul Travelers, Atlantic Mutual and The National Council for The Hartford Insurance Company.  He carries various state insurance licenses and has authored trade publication articles.

Today Bob serves as a board member for Capacity Marine Corporation, All Trans Risk Solutions, Atlantic Coast Surety and NAESIP. 

John W. Moraites

Regional Vice President

John has been in the marine industry since his graduation from college in 1973. He began his career working in the operations department at Burma Oil Tankers, Ltd.

During his tenure there, John learned the ins and outs of the shipping industry. As Burma Oil grew from three (3) vessels to a fleet of twenty-five (25), John’s responsibilities expanded into the insurance arena where he learned about Hull and Machinery, Protection and Indemnity, Charters Legal Liability, as well as insurance claims, demurrage claims and performance claims for the chartered in vessels.

With this background in insurance, John expanded his experience and knowledge by becoming the insurance manager for metals importer Commonwealth Metals Corp., a subsidiary of Commercial Metals of Dallas, TX. From there, John moved into the insurance brokerage business as Vice President of the marine division at I. R. Weinraub Insurance Brokers, dealing with importers and exporters of textiles, automobiles, bulk oil traders and developing his skills for dealing with insurance buyers and companies here in the USA and with Lloyd’s of London.

John F. Curry Agency was the next stop for John as Vice President of the Marine Division. He designed cargo insurance programs and placed Hull and Machinery/Protection and Indemnity policies. While handling DB Schenker Transportation and Logistics, John gained a deep knowledge and understanding of the Freight Forwarding industry.

John created Trans-Global Marine Insurance Services, Inc. a boutique marine insurance brokerage servicing the needs of importer, exporters and Freight Forwarders/NVOCC.

John specializes in cargo insurance, Freight Forwarders/NOVCC Legal Liability, Shippers Interest and Inland Marine risks and provides CMC’s clients with deep knowledge and understanding of the marine insurance industry, the ability to define the correct insurance market (in the USA, London or other European insurers) that offers the best program suiting the unique needs of the individual client.

David O’Dowd provides his clients with uncommon insight into the risk transfer process.  His background includes a variety of experiences ranging from Self-Insurance and Large Retention Program Management to traditional insurance placements, along with a broad familiarity with foreign and domestic underwriting markets. It gives him a singular set of tools with which to address his client’s needs.

Mr. O’Dowd currently serves as Regional Vice President of Capacity Marine Corporation (CMC), a member of the Capacity Group of Companies headquartered in Mahwah, NJ. He manages CMC’s Hull and Protection and Indemnity portfolio, and also places a wide range of other lines. David is also the producing broker on NYWaterways, the largest privately-held ferry service operator in the country.

Anne Crowe

Administrative Manager

Experience in office operations has given Anne the ability to identify problems and effect solutions. Core competencies include project management, systems administration, workflow implementation, customer service and employee relations.

At Capacity Marine Corporation, Anne is responsible for office administration, building facilities and human resources as well serving as liaison for support services such as IT, phone system, state compliance and producer licensing.

At her previous position with The Capacity Group, an EPIC Company, she was part of the Operations Committee, managed a team of five, served as the administrator for their agency management system (AMS360) and facilitated the re-location of their corporate office to a total build out of new space.  Before that, she coordinated commercial lines insurance for a large property management agent for apartment buildings located along the east coast.

Anne is a licensed New Jersey Property and Casualty Producer.

Sally Fane

Accounting Manager

Sally began her career in office management as Director of Operations for a RCI Conferencing at the very beginning of the teleconferencing industry; RCI was eventually sold for $19.7M to Premiere Conferencing. Her experience in all aspects of office operations makes her a well rounded employee; she is able to assist IT and Phone operations and has valuable input on purchasing and software/hardware management.

After years of management, Sally decided to hone her talent and concentrate her career solely in accounting and worked exclusively in that capacity for over a decade. She has been in the insurance industry for 4 years. In that 4 years, Sally has learned most clerical aspects of the industry, including License Renewals, Purchasing Groups and Surplus Lines Tax Filings.

At Capacity Marine Corporation, Sally is responsible for our entire accounting world; vendor payables, carrier payables, client collections. Sally is a licensed New Jersey Health/Accident and Property/Casualty Producer.

JonPaul Guerin

JonPaul Guerin comes from a non-marine background, originally starting his career in Life Insurance and then transitioned to the P&C side of the business. He holds a P&C and Personal Lines license who is committed to continuously expand his knowledge and capabilities within the insurance industry, with a focus on deepening his expertise overall. JonPaul is actively working on becoming a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter.
